Adix under sail
Wednesday, November 29th 2017
The glorious steel-hulled schooner Adix sails through the Fox Island Thoroughfare. Alix was built in 1984 by Astilleros de Mallorca and rebuilt in 2009 at the Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth, England. She spent time sailing the New England coast in the summers of 2016 and 2017. Note how fast she is moving in this video under sail alone, faster than most of the powerboats chasing alongside. The design of the 212 foot private yacht is based on the 1903 three-masted gaff schooner Atlantic, whose 1905 transAtlantic crossing record of 12 days, 4 hours, 1 minutes and 19 seconds stood for almost 100 years until 1997.
