The film Coyote, the story of American sailor Mike Plant, will be shown Wednesday, November 15th at 7pm at the Camden Opera House. The film’s director, Thomas Simmons, will be in attendance and will be part of a Q&A directly following the film.

Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors magazine celebrated 30 years in print this fall, which happened to coincide with receiving some well-deserved honors from peers in the publishing world. The magazine won two honorable mentions for editorial excellence in Folio’s prestigious national magazine contest for 2017, and six more awards in the International Regional Magazine Association’s 2017 contest.

For the first time, an all-women team of sailors from Maine won first place for all-female finishers in the 2017 J/24 World Championship in Mississauga, Canada. Other Mainers also did well in the event, including a team from the Harraseeket Yacht Club that placed first in the youth division.

The Maine Department of Marine Resources is in the process of recalling mussels harvested from Frenchman Bay as a result of a toxic algae bloom, and the state agency also has closed a large area to further harvesting.

A fleet of more than 40 boats will set sail off Camden on July 27-29 in the second annual Camden Classics Cup, a benefit for LifeFlight of Maine. The racing will include a special class for Sparkman & Stephens designed Dolphin 24s, and a youth regatta for racers between the ages of 12 and 17 years of age, sailing in 420s.
