Lubec and Cobscook Bay: When my father retired in the 1980s, he’d often tell us that he and my mother were thinking of moving to Lubec. We always figured the old man was joking around and trying to get her goat. But now? I’m not so sure. On a whim, my wife, Sue, and I headed there on vacation two years ago. We went back again this past summer. We hiked the steep granite cliffs of West Quoddy Head, sipped brews at the Lubec Brewing Company’s outdoor courtyard, spent a splendid sunny day at Roosevelt’s retreat on Campobello, walked the forest trails of the Cobscook Shores Park System, and savored a few hours well spent sitting on a rock at Race Point doing nothing but watching the roaring tide turn to glass and then reverse. I’m not there yet, but when I do retire, maybe it will be me telling the kids to come visit in Lubec if they want to see us. For now, I’m honored to be able to join the team here as editor at MBH&H. Let the adventures begin.
