The Maine I Love - Michael Heiko

Michael Heiko moved to South Portland eight years ago from Brooklyn, New York. His photos have appeared in national publications including the New York Times, Outside, and Men’s Journal. Inspired by the past, he uses a large-format pinhole camera, as well as a 1950s-era Kodak Bullet, along with a regular digital camera. “With my pinhole camera I am able to slow down, contemplate, and wait for the moment,” he said. “The long exposures provide the magic I lost when the digital age became so prevalent.” —MH
